These are formal charges introduced into the Sumner County District Court system. The suspects listed in the complaint have not been tried by a judge or jury unless specified otherwise. All citizens are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Count 1: Aggravated battery, level 7 felony.

Case Description: Wedd is accused of using rings and a knife to cause bodily harm to a male victim. He allegedly punched him in the face, neck, and head approximately 12 to 15 times and then used a knife to cut his arm.

Case Description:Dick is accused of sending a victim an unsolicited image of his private part.

Count 1: Violation of offender registration act, level 6 felony.

Case Description:Rayl, who is registered as a drug offender for a conviction for a controlled substance, is required to update the state on any change of address or telephone number within 72 hours of such change. He allegedly registered an address that he had not been living in since mid-March on April 13.

Case Description: Higgins is accused of entering a 2011 Dodge 1500 pickup while parked at the farm he was working at in rural Sumner County and attempting to steal the vehicle valued at $15,000.

Count 1: Aggravated domestic battery, level 7 felony.

Case Description: Jorboe is accused of shoving a family member to the ground during an argument and pinning her before getting on top of her and choking her. He also allegedly, during the fight of repeatedly slamming her head into the wall while at the Kansas Star Casino.

Case Description: Deffenbaugh is accused of making a Facebook post revealing the identity of a witness in case no. 21-CR-86, which is The State of Kansas v. Lisa Estrada. The Facebook post-Deffenbaugh allegedly included a still shot of a video of a controlled buy made by a witness, which was part of the state’s evidence.

Case Description: Morris is accused of entering a secured shop building by cutting the hasps on the door with a Sawzall without permission.

Case Description: Clark is accused of driving around two females, one under the age of 12 and the other 13, and asking the females for oral sex in exchange for gas money. The younger girl feared that she would be left across town and consented. The 13-year old allegedly declined.

Count 1: Battery on a county correction officer, level 5 felony.

Count 2: Battery on a county correction officer, level 5 felony.

Case Description: Hutchison is accused of fighting with inmate Kyle Williams while in the Sumner County jail. Two deputies were called in to break up the fight, and Hutchison allegedly angrily grabbed one of the deputy’s arms to push past him. Allegedly, while being escorted out of the detention pod by the deputies, Hutchison attempted to spit at other inmates and, in doing so, spit into the face of a deputy.

Case Description: Farley is accused of striking his father in the face at least twice, suffering a fractured jaw, broken eye socket, and broken sinuses.

Case Description: Townsend is accused of entering into the One Stop Convenience Store in Caldwell to violate a written no-trespass order. He allegedly took food items valued at $7 and left the store without paying for them.

Case Description: Lankton is accused of violating a Protection From Abuse order when officers found him in the back bedroom of a residence for which he was prohibited from entering.

Count 1: Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, level 9 felony.

Count 4: Possession of stolen property, level 9 felony.

Case Description: Arnold is accused of speeding, failing to use a signal to turn four times, and failing to maintain a lane. He then allegedly failed to stop for a pursuing police vehicle when given a visual or audible signal to bring the vehicle to a stop. He allegedly drove into the oncoming lane for almost half a mile while traveling at over 100 mph in disregard to the danger of the other drivers. He also traveled at high rates of speed on dirt roads over what was safe under the conditions.

Arnold is accused of attempting to elude police to avoid detection or capture for the felony crime of Possession of Stolen property, specifically a 2014 GMC Sierra that he was driving reportedly stolen out of Cowley County.

Case Description: Baker is accused of yelling profanities at a uniformed law enforcement officer investigating a noise complaint. He also allegedly struck the passenger door of the law enforcement officer’s vehicle.

Case Description: Beltz is accused of punching a television and throwing the remote at the Sumner County Jail without permission to do so.

Case Description: Black is accused of threatening his mother with her life if she called the police and got him arrested.

Count 6: Interference with law enforcement by false statement, level 9 felony.

Case Description: Clark is accused of sending a 12-year-old and a 16-year-old a text message that included two videos and a photo of him and another person, aged 16, engaging in a sexual act in hopes of enticing the 12-year-old to do the same. He then allegedly lied to the Wellington Police Department detective, saying that was not his video.

Date of the alleged crime: June 18, 2021.

Charges:

Count 1: Battery of law enforcement officer, Class A misdemeanor.

Count 2: Disorderly conduct, Class C misdemeanor.

Case Description: Martinez is accused of pushing a Sumner County Sheriff’s deputy while another deputy arrests another individual. While inside the Sumner County courthouse, she allegedly started yelling obscenities and waving her hands around. This allegedly created such a disturbance that several court employees came out of their offices to see what was happening.

The state of Kansas v. James BeltzCase No: 21 CR 188.

Date of the alleged crime: June 19, 2021.

Charges:

Count 1: Battery of a detention deputy, level 5 felony.

Case Description: Beltz, while incarcerated at the Sumner County Jail, was allowed to take a shower. After approximately 30 minutes, the defendant was asked to leave the shower so other inmates could use the facility, but he angrily refused, allegedly. When the deputy entered the shower to remove him, Beltz allegedly punched him in the face.

The state of Kansas v. Kristina Brooke FieldsCase No: 21 CR 189.

Date of the alleged crime: June 14, 2021.

Charges:

Count 1: Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer while failing to stop for the police roadblock, level 9 felony.

Count 2: Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and engaging in reckless driving, a level 9 felony.

Count 3: Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer involved in a motor vehicle accident or intentionally cause property damage, level 9 felony.

Count 4: Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, Class B misdemeanor.

Case Description: Fields is accused of failing to bring a red Cadillac Escalade to a stop after being pursued by a police vehicle with visual or audible signals telling him to do so. She then allegedly failed to stop for a police roadblock instead of driving around it. She also is accused of accelerating the speed of the Escalade to 101 mph in a 65 mph zone. She then allegedly ultimately crashed int0 a field while attempting to make a high-speed turn. She then allegedly drove to the back of the field, jumped a berm several feet high, and continue to drive until finally being stopped by law enforcement.

Case Description:Cahoone is accused of violating a protection from abuse order by going to the residence he was not allowed.

The state of Kansas v. Jesse Leotis StevensCase No: 21 CR 192.

Date of birth: 1979.Address: Potwin, Kans.

Date of the alleged crime: April 20, 2021.

Charges:

Count 1: Criminal trespass, Class B misdemeanor.

Count 2: Driving while suspended, Class A misdemeanor.

Count 3: Driving while habitual violator, Class A misdemeanor.

Count 4: Criminal property damage, level 9 felony.

Count 5: Criminal damage to property, Class B misdemeanor.

Count 6: Burglary of a building, level 7 felony.

Case Description: Stevens is accused of remaining on land at 909 E. 130th Ave. N, near Belle Plaine, where there was clearly a visible ‘no trespassing sign. He also drove a white Ford F-150 on a highway with a suspended driver’s license after being convicted of driving while suspended on five separate occasions.

He then allegedly broke the lock on the door to a 1990 King of the Road fifth wheel camper and a lock on the door of another building and entered said properties without the owner’s permission.

Case Description: Ward is accused of going onto land located at 909 E. 130th Ave. N, near Belle Plaine, where there was clearly a visible ‘no trespassing sign. She also was driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser on a highway with a suspended driver’s license after being convicted of driving while suspended on two separate occasions.

Case Description: Peitz is accused of selling a pack of Marlboro cigarettes for $7.72 to a minor who was 17-years-old without asking his age before selling him the cigarettes.

Case Description: Mingle is accused of selling a pack of Marlboro cigarettes for $8.26 to a minor who was 17-years-old without asking his age before selling him the cigarettes.

Date of the alleged crime: June 3, 2021.

Charges:

Count 1: Endangering a child, Class A misdemeanor.

Case Description: Caylor is accused of intoxication and taking his 1-year-old daughter into the Ninnescah River while the river was significantly above normal flow levels. Allegedly, she went underwater while trying to navigate from the east to the west bank, placing himself and the little girl in danger of drowning. The toddler was not injured.
